Assuming you have already sanded and repaired your laminate worktop, finishing and polishing it is relatively straightforward. You will need to use fine-grade sandpaper to smooth out the surface before applying a new finish.
There are two main types of finishes that can be used on laminate: wax and polyurethane. Wax is easy to apply but needs to be reapplied regularly, while polyurethane provides a more durable finish but can be tricky to apply evenly.
To apply a wax finish, start by wiping down the surface with a clean cloth to remove any dust or debris. Then, apply a thin layer of wax evenly across the surface using a lint-free cloth. Allow the wax to dry for at least an hour before buffing it to a shine with a clean, soft cloth.
To apply a polyurethane finish, start by stirring the can to mix the contents. Then, pour some of the finish into a tray and use a foam brush to apply it evenly across the surface of the laminate.
Work in small sections and make sure each section is completely dry before moving on to the next. Once the entire surface has been coated, allow it to dry for at least 24 hours before using your worktop again.
