White quartz worktops are low maintenance, but low maintenance is not the same as no maintenance. The wrong cleaning products, applied regularly, can dull the surface over time and leave marks that are harder to shift than the original spill would have been.

The good news is that keeping white quartz looking fresh is straightforward. It is mostly about knowing what to avoid.

Daily cleaning

For everyday use, you do not need specialist products. Warm water, mild washing-up liquid, and a soft cloth or microfibre sponge handle most spills and marks. Wipe down after use and dry the surface to avoid water marks building up.

Products to avoid

Stronger cleaning products are not better on quartz. Avoid bleach, oven cleaners, abrasive scouring pads, strong acidic products, harsh bathroom cleaners, and steel wool. These damage the resin that binds the quartz and dull the finish.

Removing tougher marks

For dried food or stubborn stains, use warm water and washing-up liquid first. If needed, a quartz-safe cleaner applied with a soft cloth will handle most things. Use a plastic scraper rather than metal tools on dried residue — metal scratches.

Heat protection

Quartz is durable, but direct heat affects the resin over time. Use trivets under hot pans, avoid placing baking trays straight from the oven onto the surface, and use heat mats under slow cookers. These are small habits that prevent discolouration.

Preventing discolouration on white surfaces

White surfaces show marks more readily than darker tones. Wipe spills quickly, do not leave strongly coloured liquids sitting, use a chopping board during food prep, and clean regularly rather than waiting for build-up.

Consistent care keeps white quartz looking sharp for years. The key is regular attention and knowing what not to reach for under the sink.
